Adult Self Defence Classes: For our older members we have specific self defence and mixed martial arts classes on Monday, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7pm till 8pm.
Anyone can do our adult self defence classes. All ages. All physical abilities
The classes are a welcoming environment. It’s a friendly and inclusive group. Everyone will make new friends.
Whilst there is contact between the participants it is done in a controlled manner. It’s not about hurting each other. People don’t leave with broken bones and injuries.
The classes are cardio intensive, a bit like a good bootcamp. You can do as much or as little as you want. Everyone will, gradually get fitter, stronger, more flexible.
It’s like a personal training, fitness, toning and weight loss class rolled into one!
We work on a ratio of about one instructor per 6 participants and have both male and female instructors.
You don’t need any equipment. We have all of the training gear and equipment.
You also have the option of sparring. It is completely optional, you don’t have to do it if you don’t want to. Sparring is great exercise, good fun, and a highly effective way to prepare that person for a much more real world scenario of self defence.
It is done in a controlled manner and the participants aren’t going to suffer injuries.
Those doing sparring would wear protective gear to keep them safe which will include head guards, body armour, shin guards and groin guards.
It is a way of practicing the self defence moves in a safe way without landing heavy strikes.
It includes elements of boxing, kick boxing, Karate, Taekwondo, Jiu Jitsu, Judo and Krav Maga.
It’s all about building up the person’s striking, defending and take down skills in a safe manner on the training mats.
Everything is done in a safe way so everyone goes home with no injuries and ready for school, college, University or work the next day.

My children (7 and 6) absolutely love attending MMA Defence (Little Lions). The sessions are well structured with excellent instructors that have positive influence on the children’s progression. The ethos is clear; the sessions objectives are clear on building children’s confidence emotionally together with the physical aspect of defending oneself. In addition, the sessions continue to build on maintaining self discipline and promoting respect for all.
You all should pat yourselves on the back for continuing such a great standard of instruction through what is proving to be a difficult time for all – you have been our stability through the weeks and months. Thanks for all you do, it is much appreciated.

MMA Defence classes are absolutely fantastic. The team are friendly, accommodating and do an amazing job. Great atmosphere, good syllabus structure and they offer grading to encourage progression and self positivity.

From 6 to 60 everyone is welcome and I’ve learned so much the past few months and feel so much better in myself. To be honest I’m sorry I didn’t do something like this 20 or so years ago. Best thing I’ve ever done for myself and feel like I’m learning as well as achieving something.
If you train under the instructors here, then you will learn. I guarantee that you’ll leave each session with a new and effective skill that will help you in later life. The MMA Defence team is like a big family; they’re always welcoming, cheerful and encouraging. I attend classes with my two daughters aged 10 and 7. We are constantly pushing ourselves and developing in fitness and confidence. We always leave classes feeling so pumped and proud of ourselves.

The club is very friendly and welcoming which means a lot if you are coming in as a beginner in MMA or any type of fitness training. The instructors are always on hand to help and allow you to go at your own pace. It’s a fantastic mix of training and skills that makes it fun and exciting to progress in and keep you motivated. The instructors are all about encouraging, not shouting at or telling students off. You come away from the classes on a high and knackered, it’s exercising in an enjoyable and fun way.
