Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Liverpool: Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art with an emphasis on ground based work including elements similar to grappling and wrestling. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu advocates the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger, heavier opponent by using technique, leverage, and most notably, taking the fight to the ground, and then applying joint locks and chokeholds to defeat the opponent.
Our syllabus teaches our students a self defence system that avoids the person been taken to the ground. However, we also teach you what to do if that does happen so you are always able to defend yourself.
Like all martial arts, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is designed to allow a smaller person to be able to defend themselves against a larger and stronger attacker. This is done by utilising leverage and technique over brute force and strength. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training can be used for sport grappling tournaments and in self-defence situations. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is considered a martial art, a sport and a method for promoting physical fitness and building character.
The techniques involve sweeps, chokeholds, joint locks and throws. It uses a variety of primarily ground based training methods and positions. As with the other martial arts, we incorporate the best parts of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu into our syllabus to create a fully rounded and comprehensive training programme that teaches self defence and advanced self defence.
Taking part in the classes is a great way to make new friends whilst building physical and mental fitness. It’s a great workout and will quickly build stamina as you develop those new skills.
