Why learn self-defence?
Self-defence can be valuable for women of all ages and abilities. Training can help develop awareness, confidence, fitness and practical skills that can be useful both inside and outside the training environment.
At MMA Defence, the emphasis is on advanced self-defence, including understanding how to avoid and control confrontation where possible. Knowing when to walk away, create distance or seek help can be just as important as knowing a physical technique.
Practical skills, not just strength
A common misconception is that you need to be strong or physically powerful to defend yourself. Effective self-defence can instead use technique, positioning and body mechanics to help you respond to a threat.
Training at MMA Defence incorporates elements from several martial arts and combat systems, including Krav Maga, Kickboxing, Boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Taekwondo and Karate, alongside weapons defence and controlled sparring.
This combination allows students to develop a broad range of skills while learning how different situations may require different responses.
Build confidence through training
One of the biggest benefits of self-defence for women is the confidence that can come from regular training.
Practising techniques in a controlled environment can help you become more comfortable making decisions under pressure. You can also improve your fitness, coordination, balance and overall physical confidence as you progress.
You don’t need previous martial arts experience to get started. Beginners can learn alongside more experienced students and develop their skills at their own pace.
